Dubai and Indonesia to boost the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement through advanced customs procedures and AI systems at Jebel Ali and Dubai International Airport, enhancing trade efficiency.

Dubai and Indonesia are set to boost the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by leveraging advanced customs procedures and AI systems at Jebel Ali and Dubai International Airport. This development was underscored during a recent visit from a high-level Indonesian delegation led by H.E. Hussein Bajis, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the UAE. The visit emphasized strengthening bilateral trade and enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

The delegation, comprising Indonesian Customs Officials and representatives from the Dubai Council for Border Crossing Points Security, explored the innovative customs operations at Jebel Ali & Tecom Customs Inspection Center and Dubai International Airport. They were introduced to advanced inspection devices and AI-based technologies that streamline trade operations and facilitate passenger movements, ensuring seamless and efficient processes.

H.E. Dr. Abdullah Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, highlighted the significance of the UAE-Indonesia relationship in expanding trade and investment horizons. This relationship is driven by the principles of the CEPA, which came into effect in September 2023. “Dubai Customs strives to implement global best practices to support legitimate trade and border protection, enhancing trade facilitation and supporting tourism and travel,” Busenad remarked. This commitment aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, directed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

“Dubai Customs is eager to share its customs experiences with relevant authorities in friendly countries, benefiting from accumulated expertise in streamlining procedures and increasing trade value. By adopting the latest digital programs, we enable customers to complete their transactions anytime and anywhere,” Busenad added.

During the visit, the delegation was received by Juma Al Ghaith, Chief Executive of Artificial Intelligence at Dubai Customs, along with several Executive Directors and Customs Departments Managers. They were particularly impressed by the cutting-edge technologies at Jebel Ali, such as the world’s first advanced X-Ray Scanners for inspecting heavy and light vehicles and large equipment. These scanners have significantly reduced inspection times from approximately 6 hours manually to just 5 minutes, enhancing the efficiency of container flow and bolstering the status of Jebel Ali Port as the largest in the Middle East and one of the most important seaports globally.

At Dubai International Airport, the delegation praised Dubai Customs’ efforts in streamlining passenger procedures and the digital services provided, including the “Smart I-Declare” Application. This app allows customers and passengers to declare goods and cash flow from their home country before reaching the inspection points in the destination country, further simplifying and expediting the process.

The Indonesian delegation expressed their gratitude to Dubai Customs for its efforts in facilitating trade and their interest in enhancing cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia. They emphasized their keenness to benefit from Dubai Customs’ experience in developing their customs services, contributing to the global development of customs operations and encouraging shared knowledge and information exchange.

In conclusion, Dubai and Indonesia aim to boost the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement through advanced customs procedures and AI systems at Jebel Ali and Dubai International Airport. This collaboration not only streamlines trade and passenger processes but also strengthens international relations and cooperation, highlighting the mutual commitment of the UAE and Indonesia to fostering economic growth and enhancing global trade efficiency.
