Authorities in Libya and Indonesia have initiated talks for easing the granting of entry visas to citizens of Libya and making the stay of Libyan students pursuing studies in Indonesia easier.
Such a step came following a meeting with the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity for Political Affairs, Mohammed Issa, with the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister, Bahala Mansouri, VisaGuide.World reports.
In the meeting held in Indonesia, both parties’ authorities discussed new ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation, mentioning the depth of relations between the two states. During the meeting, Issa and Libyan companies were invited to attend the Asia-Africa Conference, scheduled to be held next September in Bali, Indonesia.
According to the ministry, the visit was also an opportunity for Issa to meet with the ambassador and members of the Libyan embassy at the embassy headquarters in order to learn more about the work assigned to them and also provide further details from him to develop political and diplomatic activity to do everything possible in order to care for the Libyan community.
Visa Requirements for Libyans & Indonesians
Citizens of Indonesia planning to travel to Libya are excluded from visa requirements when planning to travel for short-term stays or tourism purposes. However, they are required to obtain an electronic travel authorization (eTA or eVisa) before reaching Libya.
At the same time, Libyan citizens planning to travel to Indonesia for short-term tourism purposes are required to apply for a visa. Those interested are required to hold a Libyan passport that is valid for six months beyond the period intended to stay in Indonesia.
They should also present proof of onward travel from Indonesia, among others. The tourist visa requirements are the same for both countries.
Libya to Introduce New E-Visa System
As part of efforts to attract a larger number of foreign tourists, the Libyan Committee for granting electronic visas to Foreigners announced that it would introduce an e-visa system.
The decision announced earlier this year, came following a meeting of the Committee, during which it was agreed on the necessity to activate and also introduce the electronic visas together with the Ministry of Labour.
E-visa system introduction is expected to ease the travel process for internationals wishing to visit Libya. Besides, the system also aims to ease the visa application process after they are eligible to do so online, without having to head to the offices.
Increase in Number of Foreign Tourists to Indonesia & Libya
A total of 11.68 million tourists visited Indonesia last year according to the statistics from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), thus accounting for a significant increase compared to 2022 figures.
It rose 98.30 percent as compared to the same period in 2022.
Last year, the Director General of the Tourism Information and Documentation Center, Osama Al-Khabuli, said that Libya also experienced a surge in the number of international tourists.
