Introduce yourself in three words or three phrases.

Ambitious explorer, curious innovator, globally-minded achiever.

What do you like most about your job?

I love exploring destinations and connecting with diverse cultures while promoting educational and experiential travel globally.

Tell me about a defining moment in your career.

As I transitioned to Zinc Group from a job in banking, I discovered a passion for working with people globally and tackling new challenges. Interacting with a diverse range of individuals within the merchandise and licensing industry provided me with invaluable insights into different cultures and working practices. This experience ignited my ambition to explore opportunities on a broader international scale.

My current role at Discova has been incredibly fulfilling. Working in the education and experience travel sector allows me to combine my passion for exploring new destinations with my desire to connect with diverse cultures. Each experience, from marketing in banking to working with legal software, has contributed to shaping me into the ambitious and curious individual I am today, continuously seeking new challenges and opportunities for growth.

What was your first job in the sector?

My first job in the sector was as a marketing relationship officer in a bank, facilitating communication between customers and property developers regarding mortgages.

What makes you get up in the morning?

I am an early bird person. The routine of enjoying my morning coffee, spending quality time with my cat, and seeking inspiration for my work sets the tone for my day. Additionally, I always jot down my goals for the day before diving into work or other activities.

What’s the best – and worst – food or drink experience at a conference you’ve had?

The best food experience I’ve had at a conference was indulging in the diverse and flavourful local cuisine in Indonesia. The rich variety of dishes from different provinces, especially the spicy ones, offered a delightful culinary adventure that left a lasting impression. Fortunately, I haven’t had a worst food experience at a conference yet. Perhaps it’s because of my genuine love for food and culinary exploration.

Describe a project you’re currently working on that excites you.

I’m currently deeply engaged in a project that ignites my passion. It revolves around crafting educational travel programs with a strong emphasis on sustainability and community involvement. What truly excites me about this endeavour is the opportunity to merge my love for discovering new destinations with my commitment to promoting ethical and responsible tourism practices. This project is all about creating immersive experiences that not only educate travellers about local cultures and environments but also empower them to make a positive impact on the communities they visit.

I’m energised by the prospect of designing journeys that leave a lasting impression on participants while fostering meaningful connections between people and places. Every aspect of this project, from researching sustainable initiatives to collaborating with local partners, fills me with anticipation and purpose. I believe that through these efforts, we can inspire others to explore the world responsibly and contribute positively to the destinations they encounter.

If you could learn one language instantly, what would it be and why?

I would love to instantly learn Spanish as it would greatly enhance my ability to connect with diverse cultures across Latin America and beyond, opening up countless opportunities for meaningful interactions and experiences.

What’s the biggest challenge to your profession?

The main challenge in my profession is managing the delicate balance between global regulations, cultural sensitivities, and sustainability while promoting educational and experiential travel. This requires continual adaptation and a nuanced understanding of legal frameworks, cultural norms, and socio-political dynamics across different regions. Ensuring sustainable tourism practices amidst rapidly changing environments is crucial, as is fostering positive socio-cultural outcomes within the communities visited.

Additionally, navigating international logistics and travel arrangements, staying competitive in the digital marketplace, and continuously enhancing services while upholding authenticity are ongoing challenges. Overcoming these multifaceted challenges demands a comprehensive approach integrating cultural competence, regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, operational efficiency, and digital innovation to ensure the longevity and sustainability of our profession.
