Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government announced that 86 public services by 16 state institutions have been restored following a cyberattack on the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2 in June.

In a statement on Saturday, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto explained that the restored services include those for permits and scholarships.

A joint team from related institutions, including the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), is working to achieve total recovery as quickly and carefully as possible.

Tjahjanto outlined a three-zone data recovery plan based on data handling stages: red, blue, and green.

“Data affected by the PDNS 2 incident is quarantined in the red zone,” he said.

The data will then be moved to the blue zone for security fortification and vulnerability scanning before being made available for users in the green zone.

Tjahjanto emphasized careful recovery steps to prevent a recurrence of the cyberattack. The government is cleaning up malware and strengthening infrastructure security.

The PDNS 2 was paralyzed by Brain Cipher ransomware on June 20. The government refused to pay the demanded $8 million ransom.

On June 24, the government revealed that the cyberattack had affected 211 public services. The figure increased to 282 the following day.
