JAKARTA – Chief Executive of Banking Supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Dian Ediana Rae asked each bank to strengthen the cybersecurity system amidst the rise of cyber hacking.

He admitted that banks are often the target of cyber attacks other than government agencies.

“Regarding cybersecurity, yes, this is indeed if we actually set the standard for a long time,” said Dian during a press conference at the OJK Board of Commissioners (RDK) Meeting, in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 9.

Dian said that actually OJK has set a standard for risk management to use the Information Technology (IT) system in banks through OJK Regulation (POJK) Number 29 of 2022 concerning Cyber Security and Security for Commercial Banks.

OJK emphasizes the importance of banks to really pay attention to their cyber resilience. Dian added that banks must conduct periodic system reviews and ensure the most up-to-date use of IT systems with maximum protection.

In the regulation, it has been explained regarding the standards and obligations of banks to test the company’s cyber resilience.

In addition, one of the important issues emphasized by the OJK is recovery time in the event of a cyber attack. Dian said that the OJK appealed to set a short recovery target for the main service needed by customers, with the hope that the recovery time could be completed in 1-2 hours.

“If necessary, maybe 1-2 hours should be completed, for the main services needed by customers. That is what we have conveyed and we are indeed with cyber attacks on national data centers,” said Dian.

Furthermore, he assessed that digital training and awareness programs (digital awareness) must continue to be carried out, and banks must conduct regular assessments and tests of security penetration.

OJK hopes that with these steps, banks in Indonesia can be better prepared to face cyber attack challenges and provide maximum protection to customers.

“Of course we have to increase our vigilance, so that this problem does not happen again, maybe in other sectors, then also training and awareness programs, digital awareness or digital awareness is also continuously carried out and we also carry out periodic assessments,” he said again.
