13 human rights organisations, including ARTICLE 19, raised concerns about the PeduliLindungi contact tracing app in an open letter to H.E. Johnny G. Plate, Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information Technology. The app was launched by the Indonesian government in April to track exposure to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Use of the app could potentially lead to violations of the right to privacy. Current publicly available information about the app is limited. At the time of writing, there was no privacy policy for the app on the App Store or Google Play. The signatories to the letter called on the government of Indonesia to release the white paper and source code for the PeduliLindungi app, provide a clear privacy policy, issue data privacy regulations, provide information about a recent data breach, and take steps to protect the right to privacy.
