Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto on May 8 reaffirmed the Indonesian government’s commitment to supporting the actualisation of quality journalism in the Southeast Asian country.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Press Council in his office on May 7, Tjahjanto said that the Indonesian government issued Presidential Regulation No.32 of 2024 on digital platform companies’ responsibility to support quality journalism to serve people.

Under the regulation, Indonesia will establish a committee comprising experts who will be tasked with conducting surveillance in a bid to support quality journalism.

According to Tjahjanto, his ministry is coordinating with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to pick some ministerial officials to join the committee.

The establishment of the committee will encourage all digital platform companies to act more responsibly in producing enlightening journalistic products. It is expected to generate positive steps for journalistic products in the country./.
